Manjanathi Puram is a second single from the movie ‘Karnan’, Starring Dhanush K.Raja, Lal, Rajsha Vijayan. Music from Santosh Narayanan and a wholesome and disturbing movie from Mari Selvaraj.

I’m a fan of Santosh Narayanan ever since Attakathi got released, pretty moved by his music. When Manjanathi Puranam got released in 2021, I was not very much impressed by the song. After watching the gut-wrenching movie in the theater, Manjanathi Puranam got into my head and this song is trying to communicate with me.

Who is Manjanathi?

According to the movie Karnan, Manjanathi is the wife of Yama Raja played by Actor Lal. We never get a chance to see Manjanathi in the whole movie. We’ll get to know about her when her husband Yama sings about her at a funeral. We could understand the pain of Yama in his voice he sings about Manjanathi. Never before I was so obsessed for a fictional character whom we didn’t even witness to see.

Why we need Manjanathi?

Even though we didn’t get a chance to see Manjanathi, we get to know about her from the song Manjanathi Puram. There are some beautiful lines from the lyricist Yugabharathi which tells us how beautiful is Manjanathi.

For example En kakkathula vecha thunda thozhu mela pottuvutta, The ancient India has followed a practice that the underprivileged people need to place their towel under their arms when they meet a privileged person, to represent some kind of slavery act, So Yama was one of the underprivileged and easily scared person until he met Manjanathi, Manjanathi is the one who turned Yama into a rebel fighting for equality. Also in another line where he said Erumaiyaattam thirinja payala yaanai mela yethuna, Yama was a kinda of guy lived out his life with out any cause, lived a life without responsibilities Manjanathi was the one who turned Yama into king, riding on top of the elephant.
This is what makes Manjanathi a perfect mate. A person who wanted his/her partner to shine high even though it takes all her life out. To those people who are in relationship treat your better half with equal amount of love and attention or the way you need to be treated in a relationship, help out for them to achieve their dream, do little sacrifices, you could be The Manjanathi to your better half and for those who are single, there is no wrong in waiting for your Manjanathi to enter your life.

As director Mari Selvaraj says “Love is the eternal shine of the universe”.
